More users in smaller cities buying condoms online

~Growth driven by lack of access to variety, hesitancy to purchase from the store
~56% of sale of condoms comes from tier 3 cities and beyond

Snapdeal, India’s largest value-focused e-commerce marketplace, released data on the sale of condoms in the last one year. As compared to last year, there has been a 30% increase in the sale of condoms driven by demand from non-metros.

Eight out of ten orders of condoms were from non-metros. 56% of the demand from non-metros was from Tier 3 cities like Imphal, Moga, Aizwal, Agartala, Ernakulam, Malapuram, Shillong, Silchar, Udaipur, Hissar, Nagaon, Bardhaman, Dibrugarh, Kanpur, and Ahmednagar.

Sexual health wellness and population control is an important focus in India. The growth and demand for condoms on Snapdeal is driven by a lack of access to a huge variety in non-metros. As Snapdeal has a discreet shipping policy for these products, users have also become confident and more open to buying condoms from the platform.

Considering the continuing hesitation around the subject of sex and its education, people are still reluctant to purchase condoms from a store. Online marketplaces have become a go-to place as it provides discreet and hassle-free purchase, which has led to increasing volumes,” says Snapdeal spokesperson.

Popular condom brands on Snapdeal include Durex, Kamasutra, Skore, Kohinoor, and Manforce. This National World Aids Day, Snapdeal launched special discounts of up to 50 percent on best selling condoms. The offer runs for the entire week. Snapdeal has put together a range of over 600 different condoms including popular varieties like ribbed, dotted, super thin, long last, and flavoured condoms.

Snapdeal is India’s third-largest e-commerce marketplace, with over 200 million product listings from five lakh registered sellers and 80 million monthly visits.
