Shark Tank India Season 5, Episode 2: This Musical Pitch Struck All The Right Chords, But Did It Strike A Deal?

The enthusiasm and excitement continued to be high as we geared up for the second episode of Shark Tank Season 5. Bold pitches, dynamic founders and high stakes – but one thing in common – a passion to drive change and build a new-age Bharat. The panel on today’s episode featured Namita Thapar, founder of Arth by Emcure, Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt, Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, Kunal Bahl, co-founder of Snapdeal & Titan Capital and promoter of Unicommerce as well as Mohit Yadav, co-founder of The Minimalist.

Be it the modern-design strollers for the new parents or teaching life skills to kids in the 21st century, here’s all about the second episode of Shark Tank India Season 5.

The episode began with the very first pitch from Pooja & Varun, a mom-dad duo turned entrepreneurs. With a vision to build Emomee as a global brand, the idea behind their startup is to teach 21st century life skills to 3-8 year olds, first through microstories available on their YouTube channel. Explaining their 3-step model of screen, stage and shop in a musical form, the founders impressed the Sharks with their cute and attractive characters. But did they strike a deal at ₹1 crore for 2% equity in the end?

Keeping the momentum high, the next set of founders were young, passionate and brimming with energy. Nitin Khanna and Anurag Singal, co-founders of Capture A Trip, a community travel company, asked for ₹75 lakhs for 1.5% equity in the company. Bringing together solo travellers who’re looking for travel buddies, the startup founders were quite positive about the potential to build a big brand. The Sharks seemed to enjoy Nitin’s candid demeanour and relatable anecdotes throughout the interaction where he shared his journey from changing multiple jobs in 5 years of his professional career to creating Capture A Trip. Sharks like Kunal and Anupam expressed a keen interest in their business model and offerings. Did the interest manifest into a “Deal pakki?”.

It’s quite interesting to note that the episode began and ended with pitches focussed on kids. Akriti Gupta presented the last pitch of the day. Her entrepreneurial journey began after she became a mother and realised a gap in the market, with regard to strollers. Since most European brands cater to the consumers living abroad, she identified the need for a modern, design-first baby care brand for the Indian market. That was how Loopie was born. To spread the word and facilitate growth for Loopie to make parenting truly limitless, Akriti proposed an investment of 75 lakhs for 1% stake in the company. Did her idea of a new lifestyle for modern parents appeal to the Sharks?
