Startup 1: VKYD: Indian “phygital” (physical + digital) fashion brand
The first pitch of the episode was by 18-year-old Arjun Goel and his father, Sanjay Goel for VKYD, under Meta Fashion. At first, the Sharks were quite confused about the virtual avatars, the concept of digital products and the evolving phygital industry. The young founder explained all the concepts through a live demo, showcasing how one can now purchase digital avatar clothing during video games and can receive them physically, sitting at home. Born out of a Covid obsession for video games, Arjun saw scope in this area and decided to build this business.
Did VKYD Get A Deal?
His father, Sanjay Goel, was termed a serial entrepreneur by Kunal when he shared his trajectory of trying his hands at several businesses. All the Sharks seemed quite inspired by the budding founder and his spirit. But was that enough to convince them to invest ₹1 crore for 10% equity in the company?
Startup 2: Japam- Spiritual Wearables Brand
Ritoban Chakrabarti entered the tank in his all-ethnic attire, carrying some stones and bracelets in his hands and reciting a snippet from Shiv Purana about Mahadev. This really caught eyeballs. That’s when the founder introduced his brand, Japam to the Sharks. With an inclination towards spirituality and an understanding of its nuances, Ritoban aims to bring the “asli” Rudraksha into the lives of all Indians. Along with that, he also manufactures energy stones, spiritual gems and Karungalis.
Did Japam Get A Deal?
Explaining the process of lab tests and other methods to differentiate the real from the fake, the founder’s command over his field and knowledge led Sharks like Varun to remark that he is real CEO material. Questioning Sharks on what they bring to the table, did he finally crack a deal of ₹1.5 crore for 1% equity despite closing at an estimated ₹600 crore this year?
Startup 3: Zen Barefoot- Flexible Barefoot Shoes
The last pitch of the episode turned out to be quite eye-opening for most Sharks. Sahib Aggarwal, along with his father, pitched Zen Barefoot, India’s first barefoot shoes company. Backing their claims and motivation behind starting the brand with studies in the US that suggest that walking barefoot is more beneficial than walking in cushioned shoes. In fact, they even went on to say that studies suggest that the more cushioning the top shoe brands provide, the more susceptible your feet are to injuries.
