Be it the sweet and cheesy dreams of Miss Cheesecake or the humble demeanour of a trekking gear founder, one could spot freshness in ideas and energy in voices in the latest of episode of Shark Tank Season 4 Episode 6. Here’s are some snippets from the extraordinary pitches and interesting debates that they sparked.
The episode began on a strong note as the alumni of Birla Institute of Technology and founder of Tripole Gears, Rohan Khanduja, made his way into the Shark Tank room. Inspired by the Triund trek he took 7 years ago, this affordable hiking gears company was born. While it initially focussed on rucksacks, he went on to expand into backpacks and other essentials one may require on such expeditions. Kunal seemed quite impressed with his humility and authenticity while his simplicity won Namita’s heart when she asked him about the one challenge he faces in his otherwise smooth sailing business. He shared how his soft spoken nature is often mistaken for being a weak entrepreneur. Kunal even went on to say that it could become an Indicorn some day. With all the love and attention, was Rohan able to secure a deal of ₹1 Cr. for 1% equity in the end?

Next up were the next generation of AI thinkers who had devised Neo Sapiens. An AI powered wearable device that can track your physical and digital conversations, emotions, state of mind etc., this wearable was created by cousins Dhanajay and Aryan Yadav based on their real life experiences of losing a loved one and not being able to reach them in time, with the aim to enhance productivity and improve data security while making lives easier for the people. Namita had several questions around its use in the medical field and also raised concerns about consent. The founders smartly answered all the questions and even gave a demo of how their product has evolved into a stylish, compact pendant that can be worn easily. But did they manage to take home ₹80 lakhs for 2.5% equity in their company?

The episode ended on a sweet note, as it should when Miss Cheesecake took over the stage. Her setup intrigued the judges before the pitchers even entered and we caught Namita and Kunal in a candid conversation wherein he told her he’s not very fond of the famous Cheesecake Factory and his favourite San Sebastian cheesecake which is a burnt basque cheesecake that is molten in the centre. Once the founders of Jodhpur-based cheesecake bakery, Pooja Balani, popularly known by her patrons as Miss Cheescake and Mr. Rathore, as she calls him, made the judges taste their baked delights, everyone was left in awe. Kunal and Namita, the two cheesecake lovers on the panel tonight gave their Shark approval too. While Anupam found it “too sweet” as it reminded him of Indian desserts, Kunal remarked, “Mujhe iss industry ka thoda pata hai. Maine PHd kari hai cheesecake mein. Banane mein nahi, khaane mein” which made everyone smile. When asked about how the idea was born, she immediately thanked Anupam, stating that it was only after she left her job and her parents forced her to look for a suitable groom on Shaadi.com that she decided to push her limits and do something of her own. Will they be able to fulfil their dream of opening a store in each city and get their ask of ₹30 lakhs for 5% equity from any of the Sharks? Looks like you’ll have to watch the episode to find out.

In the final segment of the show, we saw Kunal Bahl once again on Ask The Shark where someone questioned him about his disinterest in royalty deals. He expressed how he doesn’t want to pressure the financials of the company and believes that as an investor, I want to enable the founder and company grow.
