It’s never a dull day at Shark Tank India. Each episode is packed with action, drama, comedy and much more, like any soap opera, but better. Why? Because there are always some game-changing deals and investments that close the episode, leaving us wanting more every day. It’s been almost a month since it started and as viewers, we’ve witnessed so many interesting businesses that we might have never known, existed.
Today’s panel had Sharks from different domains, right from Vineeta Singh, CEO of Sugar Cosmetics, Viraj Bahl, Co-founder of Acko, Anupam Mittal, Founder of Shaadi.com, Aman Gupta, Co-Founder & CMO of boAt to Peyush Bansal, CEO of Lenskart. Interesting pitches came on today’s episode and here’s Episode 20 at a glance.
The episode began on a high note, quite literally, as the aromas of Em5 perfumes and scents set the mood. Shashank Chourey, while managing a range of businesses and being invested in tons of proprietorships, ended up started Em5 which when asked about by one of the Sharks, he revealed has no meaning in the name. With an aim to create affordable luxury perfumes, it has also entered the categories of body mists, solid perfumes and more. While the aroma mesmerised all, the spirit of the entrepreneur brought out the shayar in Aman who went on to say, “Tu banda GOAT hai, mere paas Boat hai” which made everyone cringe and laugh at the same time. Did Shashank manage to impress him enough to bag a deal of Rs.70 lakhs for 2% equity?

Next came two co-founders, Srijal Dave and Abu Zoheib, of WomanLikeU with an ask of Rs.1Cr. for 2% equity. This vacation wear brand aims to cater to the needs of Indian women, bringing sizes in swimwear, dresses, co-ord sets and more specifically engineered for the diverse Indian body types. With a personalised body calculator and curated collections based on the same, they dream of changing the way Indian women dress by making them confident and comfortable in their own skin. Were the Sharks all game for this investment?

The final pitch of the episode was quite the inspiration. 24 year-olds, Musavir and Khushi Verma met online and discovered their common interest in writing without a space to publish their work. This led them to start BookLeaf Publishing at such a young age. Running a profitable business in such a tricky category seemed quite commendable, even for the Sharks. While each of them shared a few cents of advise to the co-founders, and Aman’s “Kitabein bahut publish ki hongi tumne” parody made the mood lighter, was their ask of Rs.90 lakhs for 5% equity finally met? Watch the episode to find out.
